There's something quietly terrifying about being in your late 20s and feeling like you're still trying to figure it all out. For alot of us, this phase is a strange mix of confidence and confusion. You've lived enough to know what you don't want. Meanwhile, the world around you keeps spinning fast, algorithms reward the loudest voices, timelines are filled with people "making it", and somehow, you're supposed to know where to begin.
We live in a world obsessed with visibility. Success today is often equated with being known. Known for your craft, your message, your look, your thoughts, basically YOUR THING. And while that kind of recognition can be powerful, it's also daunting. It feels like you need a personal brand, a polished feed, a clear niche, and a viral moment just to be seen. But here's the truth no one says loudly enough: you don't need to have it all figured out to start.
The Illusion of the Overnight Success
Social media sells us highlight reels. We see someone's big break, their "six -figure business," their viral Ted Talk, and we assume they just knew what they were doing. Anyone who's ever posted on socail media has prayed and hoped that their photo/ video goes viral overnight and if they say they haven't, their lying to you. But behind almost every success story is a messy beginning, a period where they were unsure, underestimated, and unseen. If you're in that phase now, you're not behind, you're in process.
Starting Isn't About Having It All Together--It's About Taking One Step
I think for me personally, I've realized that it not about lack of talent or potentail, its the pressure to be perfect before you begin. I've realized though that clarity comes through action, not overthinking. You have to start showing up, sharing your work, talking about what matters to you. You have to be willing to be bad at first, and being okay with evoling in the public eye. Success favors those who begin, not those who wait until it's "perfect".
Redefining Success for Ourselves
Success today isnt a one-size-fits-all. Everyones verison of success is different, it could be buidling a creative career, it might be helping people in a quiet, meaningful way, and it might be finally feeling proud of yourself. If youre measuring yourself agaisnt someone elses version of success, youll always feel behind. Define what success is for yourself, build it on your terms.
A World That's Changing Needs Voices That Are Real
Yes, its a noisy world. But authenticiy cuts through noise. People don't want curated aesthetics and clever captions, they want truth. If youre in yoour late 20s like me and feeling lost, maybe thats your story right now. And guess what? That story matters, and can relate to more people than you think. It's somewhere to start.
My Final thoughts:
You Don't Need to Be Known to Begin. But You Need to Begin to Be Known
No one hands you a blueprint. But one step leads to another. And if you're willing to begin-- messy, uncertain, and real-- then you're already ahead of the game. Being in your late 20s doesn't mean you're late. It means youre learning, and this is our first time navigating this life. Keep going.
